About the Artist

Cecily Brown is a British painter who lives in New York. She was born and raised in England. Cecily knew she wanted to be an artist by the age of three. She has a diploma in Art and design from a University of art in England. She also got a Bachlers of Arts degree in Fine Arts. She had her grandmother, and uncles support to pursue art because they were artists as well. Her artwork focuses on woman.

Formal Analysis

It is evident Cecilys art consists of painting of woman. Her paintings are very scrambled and rigid. She uses many different colors. Some of the pieces in the painting are tiny they require you to really look closely to study what she is trying to portray. It seems like a lot of time was put into her paintings to show every detail.

Content Analysis

Cecily stated that “I want to make forms that are either just dissolving or in the process of just becoming something and to play with the relationship between the eye and the brain.” Her art explores the power relationship between male and female. She says that she likes to make images that arrtract and confound her. She says that her paintings are all very similar because the same thoughts are driving them.

Synthesis / My Experience

I love art that is inspired by woman. I love colorful pieces of art that take time to understand. That require you to look at it for a long period of time to try and unravel what the artist was feeling when they created it, as well as what the artists wants the viewer to feel. Cecilys art resonates with me because of all those reasons.
